Member Highlight
On January 12th, ODS officers responded to the 200 block of West Irvington Road in reference to a 911 unknown trouble call. A female flagged down security and reported that her friend was unresponsive and possibly experiencing a medical issue in El Pueblo Park.
Officers located a male lying on the ground near the community pool, a female standing next to him. Officer Bivins immediately suspected that the male was suffering from an opioid overdose and administered NARCAN®. Three additional doses of NARCAN® were administered, but the male remained unresponsive.
Officer Soriano realized the male was not breathing, so he was moved to a flatter surface on which to perform CPR. Officer Flores arrived on scene and provided security while Officers Soriano and Bivins performed CPR on the male until he began breathing on his own. While officers were reassessing the male’s condition, he stopped breathing again, and officers administered CPR a second time. It was almost three minutes before the male regained a pulse. He was then moved into the recovery position until Tucson Fire Department personnel arrived to continue rendering aid.
These officers exemplified Tucson Police Department values of Excellence, Teamwork, Service Orientation, and Leadership and are to be commended for a job well done!
