FATAL VEHICLE COLLISION EAST GRANT ROAD AND NORTH CAMPBELL AVENUE |
|
|
On Tuesday, January 30, 2024, shortly before 4:00 a.m., officers from Operations Division West and personnel from the Tucson Fire Department responded to East Grant Road and North Campbell Avenue for reports of a collision involving a grey 2011 Nissan Murano and a gold 2015 Jeep Cherokee. The adult-male passenger of the Nissan Murano, the adult-male driver of the Jeep Cherokee, and the adult-female passenger of the Jeep Cherokee were transported to Banner University Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. The adult-male driver of the Nissan Murano was pronounced deceased at the scene. He has been identified as 33-year-old Carlsten Dale White. Next of kin has been notified of his passing.
Detectives from the Traffic Investigations Unit responded to the scene to continue the investigation. After conducting interviews and evaluating roadway evidence, detectives determined that the Nissan Murano was southbound on N. Campbell Ave. and the Jeep Cherokee was westbound on E. Grant Rd. when the two vehicles collided in the intersection.
Excessive speed by both vehicles is the known contributing factor of the collision at this time. Detectives are still investigating to determine the traffic light sequence at the time of the collision and to determine if impairment was a factor. Both Mr. White and the passenger of the Nissan Murano were not wearing their seatbelts.
This is an ongoing investigation and no citations or charges have been issued at this time.
