At the Feb. 6 Mayor and Council Regular Meeting, the Council voted to approve the appointment of Ann Chanecka as the director of Housing and Community Development (HCD). Chanecka has been serving as HCD’s interim director since previous director Liz Morales’s appointment to assistant city manager in June 2023. Chanecka brings over 20 years of community development and urban planning experience to the director role.

This month, the City of Tucson’s Commission on Equitable Housing & Development held their monthly meeting on Thursday, February 1, and held a retreat on Friday, February 2. At the retreat, Tucson Mayor Regina Romero gave opening remarks and had a Q&A discussion with commissioners.

28 studio units of affordable housing are back online in Ward 6 after being rehabilitated by the City of Tucson. The property has been a part of the City of Tucson's El Portal housing stock for over 15 years.
