TRAFFIC ALERT
PROP 411 TUCSON DELIVERS BETTER STREETS | SAFE STREETS
OLD SPANISH TRAIL – BROADWAY TO HARRISON ROAD
REPAVING PROJECT
On Monday, January 8, 2024, Southern Arizona Paving, under contract with the City of Tucson Department of Transportation and Mobility (DTM), is scheduled to begin a roadway improvement and street safety project on Old Spanish Trail from Broadway to Harrison Road, as part of the Proposition 411 - Tucson Delivers Better Streets | Safe Streets Program.
Crews will begin the project by lowering manhole covers and water valve covers within the project limits. Following the prep work, crews will then pulverize or mill (remove) the asphalt and repave with new asphalt.
During this work, one travel lane in each direction will be maintained as well as access to residential and business driveways with the exception of when heavy equipment is directly in front of a driveway.
This work will not include the intersection of Camino Seco and Old Spanish Trail.
Additionally, as part of the Tucson Delivers Safe Streets project, crews will mill, and repave the multi-use path within the project limits.
Following the paving work, crews will raise manhole covers and water valve covers level with the new asphalt, and paint new pavement markings.
This work will take place Monday through Friday from about 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. The project is scheduled to be completed by the end of April 2024.
Electronic message boards will be in place ahead of the project to alert motorists of this upcoming work. The schedule is subject to change due to inclement weather or unforeseen circumstances.
In May 2022, Tucson voters approved Proposition 411 (Tucson Delivers – Better Streets | Safe Streets), a 10-year half-cent sales tax extension to fund neighborhood street improvements (Better Streets) and systemwide street safety projects (Safe Streets). The total projected sales tax generated over this 10-year program is estimated to be $740 million with 80 percent, or $590 million, to be dedicated to neighborhood streets and 20 percent, or $150 million, to street safety projects.
Within the 10-year program, every neighborhood street in the city limits will be improved. For more information about Tucson Delivers – Better Streets | Safe Streets, visit tucsondelivers.tucsonaz.gov/pages/better-streets-safe-streets.
