ODM in the Community
November kicked off the holiday season (although it seems like the holidays start earlier every year). As usual, ODM participated in numerous community events, both in the division and beyond.
Multiple officers and CSOs participated in El Tour de Tucson. The annual bike race brings in millions of dollars to boost the Tucson economy. There were no major issues this year, for which we're always grateful, but it was a long, wet day for many—both the riders and those doing traffic control to keep everyone safe.
ODM members also participated in a Special Olympics bowling event at Fiesta Lanes on November 18th.

Member Highlight
Operations Division Midtown would like to acknowledge the work of Community Service Officer (CSO) Betty Jo Rascon, ODM's Officer of the Month.
CSO Rascon is currently assigned to ODM Squad 3 and has been serving the Tucson community as a CSO for just over one year.
Betty Jo is always active while on patrol and serves as a resource for her peers. Recently, officers from Operations Division West responded to Campbell and Elm for a collision with life-threatening injuries. The collision was on the ODM side of the division boundary, so officers and CSOs from ODM responded and took over the incident. CSO Rascon responded to assist and asked to be primary on the call. She gathered all the information from assisting officers, witnesses, and hospital staff and provided traffic detectives with a great briefing—just one example of her going above and beyond to help.
CSO Rascon is someone who takes care of personnel on large-scale calls, bringing food and water without being asked. She is respected by her peers, takes pride in her work, and is always looking to lend a hand to a fellow officer, CSO, or community member. She is an asset to the Tucson Police Department and we are grateful for her work. Thank you, Betty Jo!

Moving Up, Welcoming New Members
It's never a good thing to lose personnel; however, ODM is excited for three recently promoted members who are now assigned to other divisions.
Officers Kami Hofmann and Ben Marquedant were promoted to the rank of Detective and LPO Mark Holderness was promoted to the rank of Sergeant. We will miss them, but we are excited for them all the same.
ODM would also like to welcome some new additions.
Travis Johnson was recently promoted to the rank of Sergeant. He worked in multiple capacities in the department before being promoted and will be assuming supervision of one of our midnight squads. Celeste Passmore was also promoted to the rank of Sergeant and is joining us from Operations Division East patrol.
Administrative Assistant RoseAnn Reyes comes to us from the Gilbert Police Department, where she worked in a similar capacity for nine years. She is a Tucson native and is returning home.
Happy holidays to all and stay safe!
Crime Prevention Tip
This time of year, many charities solicit donations.
Scammers know this, and may try to take advantage of your goodwill.
Here are some red flags, indicating a scam:
- They pressure you to give right away.
- They want you to donate via cash, cryptocurrency, gift cards, or wire transfer.
Instead of giving over the phone, tell callers to send you information in the mail. Then do an internet search for the charity. Using contact info from their website, call them and ask about their fundraising efforts. Sometimes scammers impersonate a real charity, so verify the mailing address to send a check to, or the web address to make a donation online.
The Federal Trade Commission has information on charity and other scams on their website, here.
