Pascua Yaqui Land Transfer
The City of Tucson, the Pascua Yaqui Tribe, and the federal government have been working to transfer land commonly referred to as “Old Pascua” to be designated as part of the Pascua Yaqui Indian Reservation.
In partnership with the Pascua Yaqui Police Department, TPD Operations Division West (ODW) has been preparing for the logistical and operational impact this will have on the department.
In partnership with the Pascua Yaqui Police Department, 22 ODW members took part in a multi-day training in November to become certified to assist in public safety and enforce tribal laws in a community many TPD patrol officers already have a close relationship with.
We look forward to further strengthening our relationship with this community and with our law enforcement partners.

Joint Investigation Recovers Thousands in Stolen Property
Last December, ODW Neighborhood Crimes Detectives and the ODW Community Response Team began a long-term investigation into a large criminal ring heavily involved with stolen property. Through hours of surveillance and following leads, evidence was gathered that incorporated a local restaurant and several residences in the Tucson area.
As the investigation uncovered the full extent of the criminal operation, TPD involved Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) to assist.
On November 29th, TPD and HSI worked jointly to serve three search warrants: one each on the business and two residences. Police were able to recover thousands of dollars in stolen property and evidence as a result. Ultimately, three individuals were arrested for their part in the criminal operation.

ODW Members Celebrate Thanksgiving With Tucson Refugee Ministry
The Tucson Refugee Ministry held a Thanksgiving Dinner on November 18th. ODW was grateful to be invited and join with local families to take part in this community-building event, as well as to acknowledge the many things we have to be grateful for.
A TPD Community Service Officer (CSO) hands out information.
Everyone knows you can't be official without a badge!
Member Highlight
We would like to welcome and congratulate Officers Nicholas Flynn and Antonio Levario for successfully completing TPD Field Training. They are now solo officers working hard to serve the ODW community. We welcome them to the ODW team and look forward to long and eventful careers for them both.
Unit Highlight
We would also like to highlight the fantastic work being done by our Community Response Team (CRT) in combating violent crime in Operations Division West.
Through their tireless work and devotion to bringing justice to families impacted by violent crime, ODW CRT has assisted TPD's Homicide Unit in arresting three individuals for a shooting death that occurred near the Huckelberry Loop. Several firearms and large quantities of illegal drugs were also confiscated as a result of this investigation and the work of ODW CRT. Great job!
Crime Prevention Tip
This time of year, many charities solicit donations.
Scammers know this, and may try to take advantage of your goodwill.
Here are some red flags, indicating a scam:
- They pressure you to give right away.
- They want you to donate via cash, cryptocurrency, gift cards, or wire transfer.
Instead of giving over the phone, tell callers to send you information in the mail. Then do an internet search for the charity. Using contact info from their website, call them and ask about their fundraising efforts. Sometimes scammers impersonate a real charity, so verify the mailing address to send a check to, or the web address to make a donation online.
The Federal Trade Commission has information on charity and other scams on their website, here.
