De-escalation Resolves Knife-Wielding Incident Without Injury
On October 20th, TPD Operations Division West (ODW) officers responded to a call regarding a male waiving a knife around at community members.
Residents of the apartment complex confronted the male for trespassing, whereupon he revealed that he had a knife and began waiving it at a resident. Two community members in the parking lot observed this situation and called 911.
Officers responded to the area and quickly detained the subject. The knife was located and video surveillance showed the male swinging the knife in the air while community members were in the parking lot. The male was arrested and transported to the Pima County Jail.
Through the officers’ prompt response and use of de-escalation techniques, this incident ended quickly and with no injuries.
Proactive Hot Spot Policing
Officers from Operations Division West have been engaged in proactive special deployments throughout the division. These include increasing our bike patrol officers as well as using side-by-side utility vehicles to patrol bike paths.
We are also getting ready for the holiday season by scheduling special deployments to help ensure a safe shopping experience.

Sugar Hill Shop With a Cop Event
On September 23rd, the Tucson Police Department partnered with the Sugar Hill Neighborhood Association to help approximately 20 families buy back-to-school clothing and shoes. Thanks so much to all who donated funds and came out to support this wonderful event!
 Crime Prevention Tip
Going somewhere?
If you're going away on a trip, have someone reliable pick up your mail every day - or ask the Post Office to hold your mail and cancel or pause any subscriptions or other regular deliveries.
Thieves notice mail piling up outside and take it as an open invitation to burglary.
