Stolen Merchandise Cache Discovered
On October 15th, a male entered a retail establishment in the 5100 block of South Calle Santa Cruz. He accepted a shopping bag from employees, went to the pants section, and loaded pants into the bag. He then walked out of the store without paying. Employees saw the male get into an orange Hyundai Tiburon and drive off.
The male was tracked to the 4800 block of South Palo Verde and when officers from Operations Division South arrived, they saw the orange vehicle. Further investigation identified the male associated with the vehicle, as well as his room number. Officers attempted contacting the male with no response. Further investigation revealed that the male apparently saw officers in the area and left on foot, disappearing into the surrounding neighborhood.
ODS detectives responded and obtained a warrant for both the vehicle and the room. They located the stolen merchandise and multiple other items, including brand-new unopened tools, household items, clothing, shoes, watches, and other items with tags and security devices still attached. All told, the room contained thousands of dollars in stolen merchandise from multiple retailers.
The male has since been arrested.
Serial Burglary Suspect Arrest
TPD ODS detectives have identified a male suspect in 15 to 20 burglaries of businesses in the 12th Avenue/Irvington Road area. Many of these cases lack sufficient evidence for prosecution; however, using available evidence, forensic analysis, and the download of a collection of personal and stolen phones, ODS detectives were able to assemble three cases in which this suspect (who was currently on probation for previous burglaries) has been charged. The ODS Community Response Team was able to quickly take the suspect into custody.

Crime Prevention Tip
Going somewhere?
If you're going away on a trip, have someone reliable pick up your mail every day - or ask the Post Office to hold your mail and cancel or pause any subscriptions or other regular deliveries.
Thieves notice mail piling up outside and take it as an open invitation to burglary.
