FIFTH STREET / SIXTH STREET PEDESTRIAN SAFETY & WALKABILITY PROJECT
PUBLIC EVENTS
The City of Tucson Department of Transportation and Mobility (DTM) is planning pedestrian safety and walkability improvements on Sixth Street from Campbell Avenue to Country Club Road and on Fifth Street from Country Club Road to Alvernon Way. See the map below for the project area:
This project is part of the voter-approved Proposition 407 Tucson Delivers Strong Connections Program that will provide over 120 miles of safety and mobility improvements to connect Tucsonans to parks, schools, transit stations, and other destinations. Feedback is being sought on design plans, with an emphasis on the proposed street lighting included in the project.
Join DTM staff at one of two events to review the design plans and give input to the project team:
Wednesday, October 25 | 5:30 p.m. – 7 p.m.
Howell Elementary School Cafeteria | 401 N Irving Avenue
Saturday, October 28 | 8 a.m. – 10 a.m.
Himmel Park (near the library) | 1000 N Tucson Boulevard
This project will include:
- Complete and connected sidewalks on both sides of the road
- Enhanced street crossings
- Street lighting
- Landscaping for shade

In November 2018, City of Tucson voters approved Proposition 407 Tucson Delivers Parks and Connections, a bond package to fund improvements to parks and construction of new bicycle and pedestrian routes. Over 50 connectivity projects will be built as part of a planned citywide network to improve connections to schools, parks, libraries, stores, and other destinations.
