HOMICIDE INVESTIGATION 3833 NORTH FAIRVIEW AVENUE |
On September 28, 2023, patrol officers from Operations Division West were dispatched to the report of a deceased male located in a residence at a mobile home park, at 3833 N. Fairview Avenue. Officers were informed that the resident had not shown up for work, and family had gone to his home to check his welfare. When family entered the residence, they found the male deceased. Upon arrival, officers entered the home and located the male deceased with obvious signs of trauma. Police identified the victim as 58-year-old Jorge Hernandez. Homicide Unit Detectives were contacted and undertook the investigation.
After processing the scene and interviewing neighbors and family, detectives identified the suspect as 29-year-old Piero A. Hernandez, the victim’s son. Investigators obtained an arrest warrant for Piero Hernandez for 2nd Degree Murder. As the investigation progressed, information was obtained that the suspect had made his way to the Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) and was attempting to flee the country. TPD Detectives collaborated with members from Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), who in turn contacted Customs & Border Protection Agents (CBP) at LAX. CBP Agents were able to arrive at the airport gate in time and detain Piero without incident. He is currently being held in the Los Angeles County Jail and is awaiting extradition back to Arizona. The investigation revealed that the victim had sustained gunshot trauma.
The Tucson Police Department is grateful for the partnership and continued support from our federal partners at Homeland Security Investigations and Customs & Border Protection.
