Place Network Investigation Project
For well over a year, TPD's Operations Division East (ODE) has focused proactive efforts using an evidence-based strategy known as Place Network Investigations (PNI).
PNI is a citywide strategy to reduce violence. It's grounded in evidence that persistent crime patterns and violent hot spots are visible indicators of underlying crime-place networks. Offender groups use crime-place networks because they provide the infrastructure necessary to operate illicit markets and promote violent interactions.
Our PNI focus area has shifted somewhat, and although the project's effectiveness is still being determined, we have seen significant reductions in violent crime in these areas. We will continue our efforts in the PNI throughout the remainder of 2023 and publish the results in a future newsletter.

ODE in the Community
On July 29th, we participated with the IMPACT Resource Fair at Palo Verde High School. The event featured giveaways of backpacks, children’s clothing, dental hygiene kits, and haircut services.
New ODE Fitness Room
Recently, ODE’s fitness facility was greatly updated. Thanks to the generosity of Mike and Claudia Levin and the Erik Hite Foundation, it received some much-needed equipment as well as a long overdue remodel. The room was dedicated to the memory of TPD Officer Stephen Kass, who passed away in May 2021.

Crime Prevention Tip
Keeping unused prescription medicine lying around is an invitation to trouble. It could be accidentally or deliberately ingested by someone other than yourself – and that's especially problematic with drugs that are known to be abused.
It's also important for the environment that prescription drugs are disposed of safely.
You can drop off unused prescription pills (no liquids) at any TPD substation during regular business hours.
