PANTANO ROAD IMPROVEMENT PROJECT BEGINS THIS WEEK - Starting tomorrow, Aug. 22, crews are scheduled to begin a roadway improvement project on Pantano Road, from 22nd Street to Broadway Boulevard, as part of the Prop 101 Tucson Delivers Better Streets program. Work will consist of milling (removing) the old asphalt, crack sealing, patching asphalt, and final paving throughout the project limits. This work will take place Monday through Friday, from about 6:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. each day. This project is scheduled to be completed in early October. Please drive through this area with caution while crews work to improve city streets. MAPPING RACIST COVENANTS PROJECT COMPLETION EVENT - Results from months of research on the legacy of discriminatory housing practices will be presented Friday, Aug. 25, 5:30-7 p.m. at Housing and Community Development's (HCD) Sentinel Building, 310 N. Commerce Loop. The event, which will be in person and on Zoom, will reveal the results of the Mapping Racist Covenants project in Tucson. A community panel will discuss individual and family connections to racist housing covenants, which have resulted in housing inequity. Registration by Wednesday, Aug. 23, is required for both in-person and Zoom. In-person attendance is limited. HCD Interim Director Ann Chanecka will deliver opening remarks. The project was developed by the UA School of Geography, Development & Environment. The City of Tucson is a co-sponsor, along with several community organizations. TUCSON MEET YOURSELF STILL NEEDS VOLUNTEERS - Tucson Meet Yourself (TMY) celebrates its 50th year this fall and is currently recruiting volunteers. Each year, the festival attracts more than 150,000 people to the three-day, free community event that features hundreds of artisans, home cooks, dancers, musicians, and special exhibits from Southern Arizona’s and Northern Mexico’s diverse ethnic and folk communities. This year, TMY will take place Oct. 13-15 in Downtown Tucson. As a nonprofit event, the festival relies heavily on volunteers. Each shift is 4.5 hours, and volunteers are provided a food voucher to use at TMY food vendor booths and a free T-shirt as gratitude for their time. STAY ACTIVE AND FIT WITH A PARKS AND RECREATION CENTER PASS - Take advantage of fitness opportunities and recreation center amenities by purchasing a Tucson Parks and Recreation Center Pass. Two types of passes are offered, Universal and Restricted. Universal Passes can be used at any center. Restricted Passes may only be used at Fred Archer, Cherry Avenue, Donna R. Liggins, El Rio, Freedom, Quincie Douglas, Randolph, and Santa Rosa centers. Benefits may include use of the gymnasium, weight room, indoor track, racquetball courts, locker rooms, and game areas, depending on location. FIND THE 'READY, SET, REC!' MOBILE RECREATION VANS THROUGHOUT TUCSON - Tucson Parks and Recreation's mobile recreation program, "Ready, Set, Rec!," is touring parks throughout Tucson.
