Serial Burglary Suspect

Detectives with Operations Division East Neighborhood Crimes Section (ODE NCS) focused on a serial burglar who had been breaking into storage units over several months.

With the help of ODE community service intelligence officers, detectives were able to identify a likely time and place for the burglar's next strike. After a lengthy surveillance operation, detectives caught a suspect in the act and made an arrest.

Detectives are now working to identify all cases associated with this suspect, to bring possible additional charges.

ODE in the Community

In June, ODE held its quarterly Division Advisory Committee (DAC) meeting. The Public Safety Communications Department gave a presentation on 9-1-1 services, and ODE CSO Terry Hayward did a presentation on crime safety tips. Please join us for our next DAC, which will be held in early fall.

In July, we participated in the Harrington Hills Neighborhood's annual 4th of July parade.

Also this month, ODE members will participate in the IMPACT Resource Fair on July 29th at Palo Verde High School. The event features giveaways of backpacks, children’s clothing, dental hygiene kits, and haircut services.

Operations Division East would like to recognize the work of Lead Police Officer Tommy King.

Tommy is being recognized by the Arizona Narcotics Association as their Officer of the Year for his work on interdicting narcotics dealers on Tucson's eastside.

This work is critical, as illegal fentanyl use is creating a public health crisis in the United States.

Crime Prevention Tip

Gift cards are for buying gifts - not for paying bills.

If anyone asks you to pay a bill using a gift card, it's a scam.

Utilities won't ask you to pay with gift cards. Social Security and Medicare won't ask you to pay with gift cards. The IRS won't ask you to pay with gift cards. No reputable business will ask you to pay with gift cards.

Use gift cards to buy gifts. Never use them as payment for anything else. For more on gift card scams, visit the FTC website.
