Arrest in Repeat "Shots Fired" Calls
Throughout the month of June, TPD's Operations Division Midtown (ODM) was plagued by multiple "shots fired" calls in the area of Winstel and Flower. On numerous occasions, officers responded to the area and were able to locate shell casings and speak to witnesses who believed the shots were being generated from one particular location. Fortunately, no one was injured during these incidents.
ODM personnel conducted surveillance and criminal history checks on the location and determined that there was a sole male occupant living there. On Tuesday, June 26th, officers took the male into custody when he went outside and served a search warrant on the residence. Located inside was an AR-15 rifle, along with ammo and spent shell casings. The male subject's parents responded to the scene to take custody of his dog, and stated that he had been distant from the family for the past 5 or 6 months, and they were concerned that he had gotten involved with drugs. The landlord was also contacted and advised of the situation.

ODM in the Community
The heat has arrived and outdoor summer events have certainly slowed down.
However, that did not deter CSO Awes Mohammed from participating in the Toys for Tots event on June 23rd and 24th. Awes was playing basketball, engaging with the youth, walking around laughing, and having recruiting conversations! Great job, Awes!
ODM Officer of the Month
ODM would like to acknowledge the work of Officer Matthew O’Connor. Officer O’Connor is always willing to help his fellow officers. He does not hesitate to take calls or back up other officers. He is a team player, always willing to go the extra mile and often taking more calls than most officers.
Matthew supports the Tucson Police Department's efforts around Problem-oriented Precision Policing (PoPP), traffic safety, and community outreach. In the month of June, Officer O’Connor completed over 35 traffic stops, handled 45 PoPP calls, and took numerous calls for service. Officer O’Connor has also participated in Toys for Tots events, and has reached into his own wallet to purchase school supplies for children at Blenman Elementary School. Matthew is a true asset to the Tucson Police Department. He sets a high standard for Midtown patrol officers and is the definition of what a dedicated and effective patrol officer should strive to be.
