Operations Highlights
Traffic Stop
On April 17th, TPD ODW Officer Escamilla located a stolen U-Haul vehicle in the 3200 block of North Oracle Road. A stop was conducted and the vehicle's occupants, a male and a female, were detained.
The U-Haul was stolen in Yuma, Arizona and in its cargo bay was a stolen motorcycle from Tucson. The incident evolved into a myriad of felony cases, including the stolen U-Haul and the stolen motorcycle, as well as a lottery ticket burglary investigation. The male occupant in the vehicle had an extensive criminal history of similar crimes.
School Burglary
On April 24th, ODW officers responded to a burglary of a school in the 500 block of South Highland Avenue. Approximately 40 tablet computers were stolen and video surveillance showed three juvenile males force entry into the school. Within 24 hours Detectives Brumitt and Kleinlein, Sergeant Peak, and Officer Still located 33 of the tablets in a wash near the school. Using GPS, several more tablets were located at a nearby building. Detectives conducted additional follow-up at that location, at which time the tablets were recovered and the juveniles were located and arrested for the burglary.
Stolen Vehicle, Prohibited Possessor
On April 25th, an ODW officer in plainclothes from the Community Response Team (CRT) was driving an unmarked vehicle westbound on Blacklidge Drive from Stone Avenue when he observed a vehicle suspiciously tailgating him. The officer pulled over and let the vehicle pass while he called out the license plate - which returned to a stolen vehicle.
The driver pulled into an apartment complex where a marked patrol unit was working. A high-risk stop was conducted and the driver was detained without incident. Contraband could be seen in plain view inside the vehicle. Officers searched the vehicle and located 1 pound and 4 ounces of methamphetamine, about 1800 fentanyl pills, 13 grams of mushrooms, 20 grams of cocaine, stolen computers, hundreds of credit cards and ID cards, ledgers involving fraud and narcotics sales, $800 cash, a loaded Derringer-style 45 and a loaded Glock 43 9mm. The driver was also a convicted felon prohibited from possessing a firearm.
Crime Prevention Tip

Situational awareness may help you avoid becoming a victim of crime.
Instead of looking down at your phone, be aware of what's in front of, behind, and around you.
Instead of listening to loud music, listen to your surroundings.
With headphones on, you could miss hearing someone run up behind you. In a less urban area, you could even miss hearing the rattle of an angry rattlesnake - something you definitely want to pay attention to!
