In recognition of April as Fair Housing Month, Housing and Community Development will hold a virtual forum on the Mapping Racist Covenants project this Friday, April 28, at 12 p.m., Arizona time. The project tells the story of racist covenants across Tucson neighborhoods and subdivisions, focusing on those enacted between 1912-1950.
Panelists include Laurice Walker, Chief Equity Officer, City of Tucson; Jason Jurjevich, University of Arizona assistant professor, director of the MRC project; Liane Wong, member of the MRC advisory group. Manisha Bewtra, Planning, Mobility, and Development Advisor to Mayor Regina Romero, will give introductory remarks.

Earlier this month, the City of Tucson's Department of Housing and Community Development released its 2022 Annual Report, highlighting major accomplishments from the past year and setting goals for 2023. The report includes priority and goal trackers, to show the progress made since the adoption of two major plans in 2021.

This year for Community Development Week (April 10-14), Housing and Community Development highlighted the past ten years of community investments through Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) and HOME Investment Partnerships program funds.

Housing and Community Development (HCD) has created a pilot program to provide financial and technical assistance to low-income homeowners in the City of Tucson to improve an existing Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) or accessory structure that can be converted into an ADU on owner-occupied properties.

April's Commission on Equitable Housing and Development meeting included a presentation on the department's 2022 Annual Report, an update on Low Income Housing Tax Credits (LIHTC), and a discussion on commission goals and priorities.
Reminder: all Commission on Equitable Housing and Development meetings are open to the public. Those with an interest in housing equity in Tucson are encouraged to attend!
