PROPOSITION 411 PROGRESSING - Oversight committee meetings and project plans are in motion for Proposition 411 (Tucson Delivers: Better Streets | Safe Streets). In May 2022, voters approved the proposition to extend a temporary half-cent sales tax for an additional 10 years. An estimated $740 million in sales tax revenue is dedicated to two programs: Better Streets and Safe Streets. Two citizens’ oversight groups monitor the progress, programs, and expenditures of these initiatives. In February 2023, the Independent Oversight and Accountability Commission (IOAC), met and approved the initial project plan and map for Neighborhood Street Improvements. The IOAC, with recommendations from the Tucson Department of Transportation and Mobility, directed an estimated $58 million in funding for this initial plan. Improvements are slated to start by spring 2023 in specific neighborhoods. Within the 10-year program, every neighborhood street in city limits will be improved.
