Child Sexual Assault Suspect Arrested
Operations Division Midtown (ODM) Officers Bravo, Russo, York, Wade, and Sgt. Cuestas, along with Detectives McMullen, Mendoza, and members of the Pima County Attorney’s Office, worked together tirelessly to bring some justice to a 15-year old girl who had been sexually assaulted by a family member over a period of approximately 10 years.
The abuse started while the family resided in Mexico and continued when they relocated to the United States. Last month, the suspect was arrested on multiple counts of sexual assault, molestation, and sexual contact with a minor.

ODM in the Community
On February 11, 2023, ODM Sergeant Travers and CSO Mohamed, along with TPD’s Community Engagement Coordinator Margo Susco and Violence Prevention Coordinator Brittany Petersen, participated in a bowling event with an NAACP youth group at Lucky Strike Bowl.
We were happy to have been invited by the NAACP Youth Council, Dr. Cheree Meeks, Lance Meeks, Rose, Lorna, and student families, and we thank them for the opportunity to engage with youth while having fun! A special thanks also goes to our community partner, Lucky Strike Bowl, for hosting this great event.

Member Highlights
88-Crime Award
The Operations Division Midtown Community Response Team and the TPD Robbery Unit were selected as 2022 Outstanding Squads of the Year by 88-Crime.
These units were selected because their activities - targeting violent offenders and crimes impacting the community - resulted in numerous arrests and improved quality of life for residents and businesses. Unit members will be honored at an awards dinner on May 6, 2023.
ODM Officer of the Month
Community Service Officer (CSO) Lori Oien is currently assigned to ODM as the full-time PNI Community Resource Officer.
PNI stands for Place Network Investigations, a multi-disciplinary approach to disrupting the criminal networks that contribute to areas of chronic violent crime.
CSO Oien has been extremely helpful in bringing together businesses and community members to address the needs of residents in ODM's PNI.
She has organized events in the ODM PNI area, including “Coffee with a Cop” and recruiting events.
CSO Oien is an effective communicator, consistently engaging with the community and keeping her command staff informed. She has helped address the needs of the Alvernon Grant Initiative (AGI), attending their meetings and ensuring that neighborhood concerns are addressed promptly.
CSO Oien also consistently responds to the needs of residents and businesses in the Swan and Speedway area. She was instrumental in helping to bring businesses together, ensuring that each completed and maintained a trespass letter on file, as well as making crime prevention recommendations. Business owners and neighborhood representatives have commended her hard work, positive attitude, and reliability.

Crime Prevention Tip

|
Ouch! Nobody wants to mess with a cholla.
Planting cactus under a window can be an effective deterrent against burglars.
Consider cholla or other spiky plants, especially for windows that are less visible to neighbors or people passing by on the street (and therefore more attractive to burglars).
