"Zoom Zoom" at the Children's Museum Tucson
On January 21st, ODW officers and community service officers participated in the transportation-and-career-focused "Zoom Zoom" event at the Children's Museum Tucson on South 6th Avenue across from Armory Park. TPD showed off patrol cars, motorcycles, and the crime scene van. Kids got to sit on the motorcycles (cool factor), turn on sirens (loud!), and play with fingerprint powder (messy), all while learning about careers in law enforcement. Our ODW team was a big hit with the kids!
Member Highlights
Officer of the Quarter
Officer Trevor Nesbitt was selected by ODW sergeants as Officer of the Quarter. He is a highly motivated and proactive department member with a positive attitude who enjoys taking on challenges to improve himself. ODW is proud to recognize Officer Nesbitt for his work ethic and dedication to serving the Tucson community!
Lifesaving Aid
On January 3rd, Officer Angel Zuniga-Chavez responded to a verified alarm from a westside merchant. He was advised that someone was still inside the building and saw a male trying to exit the front door, carrying a large plastic bag. The male ran back inside and tried to hide from officers, who called him out. He exited the store and fled on foot, but was caught by Officer Zuniga-Chavez after a short pursuit.
Surveillance video showed the male jumping into the business through a broken window and breaking into the cigarette display case. He filled a plastic bag with more than $3,000 of cigarettes and electronic items.
After he was detained, the male told officers he had taken over 10 fentanyl pills before they arrived. He then became unresponsive. Officer Collin Foss administered naloxone (a drug to reverse opioid overdose) and the male was taken to the hospital before being booked into jail.
Thanks to Officers Zuniga-Chavez and Foss for their quick responses, both in catching the suspect and in rendering aid!
Welcome!
ODW welcomes Lt. Jason Hochstettler to the division and bids farewell to Lt. Belinda Morales, who moved on to a new assignment at the academy. Lt. Aaron Wine is now assigned to the Downtown District in ODW. We thank Lt. Morales for her two years of service and dedication to the division!
Crime Prevention Tip

|
In Churchill, Manitoba, the "Polar Bear Capital of the World," residents leave vehicles unlocked in case they come face to face with a polar bear - so they have a way to escape.
**This is unlikely to happen in Tucson.**
So please:
- Lock your vehicle
- Remove any firearms
- Remove any packages or keep them out of sight
