SERIOUS-INJURY COLLISION/HIT-AND-RUN PEDESTRIAN NORTH STONE AVENUE AND WEST GLENN STREET |
On the February 9, 2023, at approximately 1:30 a.m., officers from Operations Division West responded to the area just north of W. Glenn St. and N. Stone Ave. for the report of an unresponsive male in the roadway. Upon arrival, officers located a male, in his 40s, lying in the curb lane of southbound Stone Avenue. The male had obvious signs of trauma leading officers to believe he had been struck by a vehicle. Tucson Fire Department personnel responded to the scene and transported the man to Banner University Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. Traffic Unit Detectives were contacted and undertook the investigation.
Roadway evidence indicated that the male was in the roadway, in the southbound lanes of Stone Avenue, and not in a marked or implied crosswalk. Detectives are attempting to determine if the male was crossing Stone Avenue or if he was walking in the roadway itself. The vehicle that struck the male fled the scene without stopping. Detectives found narcotics in the male’s possession; however, it is unknown if he was under the influence at the time of the collision.
Detectives are in the process of examining forensic evidence in hopes of locating the suspect vehicle. The vehicle is described as a light-colored, possibly grey, 2010-2012 Ford Fusion. Investigators believe the vehicle has noticeable front-end damage to include the windshield area. Anyone with information is urged to call 88-CRIME. You can remain anonymous. The investigation is ongoing and additional updates will be provided as they become available.
