ICYMI: TUCSON AWARDED $25 MILLION TO REBUILD 22ND STREET OVERPASS (VIDEO) - Tucson Mayor Regina Romero welcomed U.S. Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg to Tucson last week to announce a $25 million Rebuilding American Infrastructure with Sustainability and Equity (RAISE) grant to improve the 22nd Street bridge connecting Kino Parkway to Tucson Boulevard. The new bridge will be expanded from four lanes to six and will feature a divided median and a separate bicycle and pedestrian bridge. It will eliminate weight restrictions and lengthy detour routes for emergency medical services, school buses, freight, and transit. The project provides an east/west connection between Downtown Tucson and an underserved community. Broadband conduit will also be installed for future expansion to reach that community. Construction on the shovel-ready project is scheduled to begin at the end of this month. Watch the news conference RAISE grant 22nd Street - Kino Parkway to Tucson Boulevard project
