TWO-DAY UNSHELTERED HOMELESSNESS FORUM NEXT WEEK - The City of Tucson Housing and Community Development (HCD) department and the Tucson Pima Collaboration to End Homelessness (TPHC) will hold a two-day community strategy session to focus on efforts to address unsheltered homelessness in the Tucson area. Hear community updates on local data, initiatives, and efforts to address homelessness. Small groups will create specific action plans and identify resource and capacity needs. The session will develop an initiative aimed at rapidly housing individuals and families with severe service needs to reduce the cost and trauma associated with recurrent episodes of homelessness, incarceration, and emergency services. 2018 PARKS AND CONNECTIONS BOND OVERSIGHT COMMISSION MEETING NEXT WEEK - More than three years ago, City of Tucson voters approved Proposition 407: Tucson Delivers Parks and Connections, a $225 million bond package for capital improvements via General Obligation bonds. Approved on Nov. 6, 2018, the bond funds are dedicated to improving City park amenities (playgrounds, sports fields, pools, splash pads, and recreation centers) and connections (pedestrian pathways, bicycle pathways, and pedestrian and bicycle safety). This Tucson Delivers program is monitored by 11 members of the public appointed to the 2018 Parks and Connections Bond Oversight Commission (PCBOC). The commission meets in person Monday, Aug. 15, at 5:30 p.m., at the Parks Administration building (900 S. Randolph Way) and via Zoom. HHW/DOCUMENT SHREDDING EVENT THIS WEEKEND - The City of Tucson's Environmental and General Services Department (EGSD) is hosting its monthly Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Collection Event this Saturday, Aug. 13, from 8 a.m.-noon, at Pima Community College West Campus, 2202 W. Anklam Road. City residents can drop off HHW, electronic waste, paper documents for shredding (limit 3 boxes), and glass bottles and jars at no charge. Unknown chemicals will not be accepted. The event is free for City of Tucson residents with proof of address. Residents from Marana, Oro Valley, Sahuarita, and unincorporated Pima County will be charged a $10 fee to drop off materials. EGSD hosts HHW collection events on the second Saturday of every month in different areas across Tucson.
