July is Parks and Recreation Month - Rise Up
This July, join Tucson Parks and Recreation for Park and Recreation Month, as we celebrate a stronger, more vibrant, and more resilient Tucson, because of parks and recreation. Tucson is celebrating Park and Recreation Month, an initiative of the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA), by inviting our community to share their experiences, memories, and stories about what parks and recreation means to them. We are bringing attention to how important it is to rise up and support the field of parks and recreation because every day, park and recreation professionals rise up for their communities in service of equity, climate readiness, and overall health and well-being. We encourage everyone that supports parks and recreation to share how it has improved their quality of life, as well as why their local park and recreation professionals are important to them, on social media with the hashtag #RiseUpJuly. The bond funds are dedicated to improving City park amenities (playgrounds, sports fields, pools, splash pads, and recreation centers) as well as connections (pedestrian pathways, bicycle pathways, and pedestrian and bicycle safety). Projects will happen in phases through 2028. Thank you, Tucson voters! For more information on all the projects planned using Tucson Delivers bond funds, visit TucsonDelivers.Tucsonaz.gov.
Construction Underway at CSM Martin R. “Gunny” Barreras Memorial Park
CSM Martin R. “Gunny” Barreras Memorial Park, 5702 S. Campbell Ave., is undergoing nearly $7.9 million in renovations and development. Some of the park improvements underway include new items, such as a walking path, a playground with shade, a ramada, LED lighting, an outdoor fitness equipment court, a splash pad with a restroom, and renovation of the current restroom. The park will remain closed during renovations. The project is funded primarily by 2018 voter-approved general obligation bond dollars, with additional funding from state and federal sources.
