TUCSON WATER LAUNCHES SANTA CRUZ RIVER HERITAGE PROJECT IRVINGTON OUTFALL SITE
On Tuesday, November 2, 2021 Tucson Water will release clean recycled water into the Santa Cruz River at the launch of the Santa Cruz River Heritage Project Irvington Outfall site at I-19 and Irvington Road. The Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ) has approved the permit allowing for the water discharge in addition to support by Tucson’s Mayor and Council.
The release of clean, treated water from the Tucson Airport Remediation Project (TARP) will create a vibrant flowing stream to add to Tucson’s water amenities. Native wetlands will be restored, native plants and animals will be supported, and Tucson’s underground aquifers will be replenished for future generations. The initial rate of water flow will be approximately 1200 gallons per minute.
Tucson Water’s stringent internal water quality guidelines dictate that the treated water discharged from the TARP facility will be of a very high quality. Tucson Water will continue to test the water weekly to ensure that high standards of water quality are met. Tucson residents should be aware that the discharged water is not to be ingested once it is exposed to the natural environment of the riverbed.
