Halloween 2021
Halloween is this weekend. Last year most trick or treating was canceled due to COVID concerns. With vaccinations and our familiarity with other mitigation strategies, we expect to see kids and their parents out in the neighborhoods this weekend. Our partners at the Pima County Health Department encourage everyone who is taking part in Halloween activities to follow these 5 COVID-safety tips.
As we continue accepting donations for incoming Afghan refugees, I’m introducing you to our new partners in that effort. The Muslim Community Center of Tucson (MCCT) is hosting a Halloween get-together at their facility on Sunday from 2pm until 6pm. The entire community is invited to come and get to know their team.
In the past week, MCCT has been to the Ward 6 office and has picked up a full truck load of bedding and other donations many of you have brought in support of the Afghan refugees. This weekend, in addition to the kids' activities, the MCCT and their partners from the Islamic Circle of North America (ICNA) will be distributing food to those in need. And MCCT is putting into place the logistics of assuring the donations you’ve been bringing to my office get into the hands and homes of our new Afghan community members. I’ll have more on that in my Monday newsletter.
Thank you all for continuing this support effort. Every day my staff and I are touched by the generosity of the Tucson community. I’m pleased to have MCCT now working hand in hand in that same effort. It does take a village, and the Tucson village is wide, and compassionate.
The Ward 6 office continues to be open from 9am until noon every weekday to receive donations in support of the incoming Afghan refugee families. We’re located at 3202 E. 1st St – across Speedway from The Loft Cinema.
