Monsoon Season Tips for Your Evaporative Cooler
Monsoon season has arrived and with the welcomed rain also comes high humidity. Evaporative cooling works by introducing moisture into the air, making them effective during the dry season; however, they are less effective during monsoons. Help save water and energy by turning off the cooler pump and only running the fan when the humidity is high. The rains also introduce high winds, creating dust storms and moving debris that can potentially clog cooler filters and pads. Summer is a good time to conduct an annual inspection of evaporative coolers. Maintenance tips include:
-
Use a small brush and vacuum to clean out any dust and debris collected within the system
-
Inspect the cooling pads and replace if needed (usually pads need replaced yearly)
-
Inspect the float and ensure that the water level in the pan is appropriate
-
Inspect the recirculating pump and look for hard water deposits
-
Inspect the rubber belt as it gets worn and brittle during the dry season (replace if needed)
Taking the time to clean and inspect your cooler will ensure that it will work efficiently after the monsoon storms have passed and will maintain the life of your system.
