CAUTION URGED DURING STORMS - The City of Tucson and Pima County are advising the public to use caution over the next few days when traveling through Southern Arizona because of a powerful storm system moving through the region. Forecasts from the National Weather Service show an increased chance of thunderstorms and heavy rainfall with the possibility of flash flooding through Saturday night. As washes flood, Tucson Department of Transportation and Mobility (DTM) crews are closing roadways at affected dip crossings and washes. DTM is also assisting residents concerned with flooding by offering free, self-service sandbags in the east parking lot of Hi Corbett Field, 700 S. Randolph Way, at Reid Park. This location is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Please bring your own shovel. You can find flood safety information from the Pima County Regional Flood Control District at the link below. The site includes information on how to sign up for flood and other emergency alerts from the Pima County Office of Emergency Management. For the latest on road conditions and closures, call the Road Conditions Hotline at (520) 547-7510, or visit the Pima County Department of Transportation’s Road Closure Updates website linked below. SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS ON ACCESSORY DWELLING UNITS - The City of Tucson Planning Commission will hold a virtual public hearing on July 26 at 8 p.m. on a proposed amendment to the Unified Development Code (UDC) to allow Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs). An ADU is an independent housing unit with its own kitchen, bathroom, and living and sleeping space, built on the same lot as a primary residence. These units have been legalized in other communities to create more affordable housing, support multi-generational households, and provide more options for residents who wish to age in place. You can submit written comments or request to speak at the hearing by sending an email to PlanningCommission@tucsonaz.gov. The agenda materials and instructions on how to join the virtual public hearing can be found on the Planning Commission page linked below. The draft ADU proposal was developed based on community goals, feedback at public meetings, online comments, and input from a stakeholder group representing a range of viewpoints and expertise. All amendments to the UDC are reviewed by the Planning Commission, which makes a recommendation to Mayor and Council, which will hold a public hearing on these types of code amendments. That hearing will provide an additional opportunity for public comment.
