June is the hottest month of the year!
During this time the extreme heat stresses our vegetation and creates the greatest water demand for our trees and plants. Understanding your vegetation’s water needs is crucial for the long-term health of your landscape. Different types of trees and plants have different watering needs. The amount of water plants require increases as they grow, and trees in particular, need careful attention to ensure adequate watering. A small, native shrub needs less than 10 gallons of water in June, but a 20-foot mesquite needs 600 gallons and a 10-foot citrus needs 250 gallons of water. Using resources from the University of Arizona Cooperative Extension and our monthly watering guide will help you water efficiently during this critical time of year.
