TUCSON PARKS AND RECREATION RESUMES INDOOR SUMMER CLASSES - Tucson Parks and Recreation is offering limited indoor leisure classes this summer. Classes range from arts and crafts, ceramics, dance, health and fitness, jewelry making, music, and more for youth and adults. Timely registration is recommended since summer offerings fill up quickly. Indoor activities will be limited to classes or programs only and at this time will not be open for drop-in access. Classes begin the week of June 6. Registration starts tomorrow, May 21, at 9 a.m. for City residents and at noon for non-City residents. To view and register for classes, follow the link below. TRAFFIC ALERT: SIGNAL WORK AT GRANT ROAD AND WILMOT ROAD INTERSECTION - Crews under contract with the City of Tucson Department of Transportation and Mobility (DTM) are scheduled to conduct a traffic signal repair at the Grant Road and Wilmot Road intersection tomorrow, May 21. The work is scheduled to take place from 6:30-10:30 a.m. During the work, the traffic signals at the intersection will not be in operation. Law enforcement officers will be on-site to direct travel through the intersection until the work is complete. You can expect delays when driving in the work area. Please obey all traffic control signs, and watch for officers and construction personnel in the area. Message boards are in place to alert the traveling public. Read the news release
EL PASO AND SOUTHWESTERN GREENWAY EVENTS START TONIGHT - The City of Tucson Department of Transportation and Mobility (DTM) is planning a new segment of the El Paso and Southwestern Greenway, an off-street walking and biking path connecting Downtown Tucson to South Tucson and the Kino Environmental Restoration Project. There are three opportunities to join the DTM team to learn more about the project and provide your input. There will be an ice cream social in the park tonight, May 20, 5:30-8 p.m., at James Thomas Park, 3200 S. Forgeus Ave. This project is part of the voter-approved Proposition 407, known as Tucson Delivers: Strong Connections, that will expand the citywide low-stress biking and walking network. JOB OPPORTUNITY: HOUSING SERVICES AGENT - The City of Tucson’s Department of Housing and Community Development (HCD) is seeking a housing services agent to act as a liaison between landlords and government agencies to increase participation in homeless subsidy and community voucher programs. This position will initiate and track landlord participation, incentives, and referrals to community agencies. Minimum qualifications include a high school diploma or equivalent and some experience in assisted housing, human services, community development, or property management. Preferred qualifications include prior experience working in Housing and Urban Development (HUD) homeless assistance programs. This is a grant-funded position through February 2022 and is subject to funding availability at the end of the grant period. ENJOY COOL SUMMER FUN AT REID PARK ZOO DURING SUMMER SAFARI NIGHTS - Reid Park Zoo’s annual Summer Safari Nights program is back every Saturday, 5:30-8:30 p.m., through Aug. 15. Enjoy the Zoo during cooler evening temperatures, with events featuring live music from local bands, games, animal chats, wildlife activities, carousel rides, and themed evenings. Food and drink specials also will be available. The theme this Saturday night, May 22, is "Pollinator Power." Pollinators have the power to fill our world with flowers and our food supply. Learn about the bees, butterflies, hummingbirds, and moths that visit the Zoo's new pollinator garden, and see the lemurs, experts of seed dispersal. COVID-19 VACCINATION UPDATE - COVID-19 vaccines are available to anyone 12 years old and up at Pfizer sites in Tucson and Pima County. A parent or guardian must be present to provide consent for their minor child to get the vaccine. Sites with the Moderna and Johnson & Johnson vaccines are open to those at least 18 years old. The Arizona Department of Health Services has an interactive map with vaccine distribution sites (link below). So far, more than 3.18 million people in Arizona, or 44.3% of the population, have received at least one dose of the vaccine, and more than 2.67 million people are fully vaccinated with both doses.
