MAYOR ROMERO REQUESTS CITY MASK ORDINANCE BE UPDATED TO ALIGN WITH CDC GUIDANCE
Mayor Regina Romero said “In anticipation of updated guidance from the Center for Disease Control (CDC), I requested that Mayor and City Council update our directions at our last Mayor and Council meeting to ensure that at all times the City of Tucson Mask Ordinance is aligned with the latest guidance from the CDC. The City of Tucson will revise its ordinance as necessary to align with Pima County. I ask all Tucsonans to follow the CDC guidelines and safety recommendations. I encourage all Tucsonans 12 and up to get their free vaccinations at any one of the locations available throughout the city.”
The CDC guidance states that fully vaccinated people can resume nearly all activities without wearing a mask or physically distancing. The CDC recommends and federal law requires mask wearing on public transportation. Therefore, mask wearing requirements will remain in place on Sun Tran, Sun Link, Sun Van and all other City of Tucson transportation. The City of Tucson is also in close communication with partners at the Pima County Health Department to ensure an alignment within the region.
The COVID-19 vaccines are an effective way to protect from getting sick and return to activities enjoyed prior to the pandemic. An individual is considered fully vaccinated two weeks after receiving the second dose of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccines or two weeks after receiving the single dose of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine. COVID-19 vaccines are available for free and often without a wait at sites throughout Tucson. Vaccine locations and eligibility information are available online or by calling (520) 222-0119.
