Local Artist Alex! Jimenez Brings Together Art, Culture, and Water
In March, Tucson Water was one of four utilities across the nation selected by the US Water Alliance to participate in its inaugural Water, Arts, and Culture Accelerator. Through a call-to-artist process, Tucson native and Chicana artist Alexandra (Alex!) Jimenez was tapped by local community leaders and utility staff to be an arts-culture bearer. Celebrating 20 Years of Colorado River Water
On May 5, 2001 Mayor Bob Walkup, Water Director David Modeer, City Council members, dignitaries, staff, and media gathered to celebrate as Colorado River water splashed into a Tucson Water recharge basin, marking the start of full-scale, long-term operations to recharge, recover, and deliver this water to customers.
Delivering and storing Colorado River water has helped to make our desert community more resilient and sustainable: reducing groundwater pumping, creating a more diverse resource portfolio, and improving our aquifer. The status of our aquifer is vastly improved!

Monthly Watering Tip
Temperatures are rising! It’s time to make sure your yard is ready for summer. Plants will need more water in the coming months, so check out our summer watering schedule and make sure your controller is programmed correctly. While plants need more water in the summer to thrive, using mulch decreases evaporation and conserves water. Place mulch 2-4" around trees and shrubs to the extent of the root zone, but take care to keep mulch away from the base of shrubs and tree trunks. Consider buying local. Some local retailers recycle local yard waste into beneficial landscape materials.

Say “NO!” to recycling plastic bags & plastic wrap
Never put any type of film plastic -- plastic bags, plastic wrap, bread bags, or flexible film plastic -- in a blue recycling bin. When plastics end up in a Blue Barrel, then your bin’s contents cause contamination and become dangerous at the recycling facility.
