COVID-19 VACCINATION SITES EXPAND AND MOVE INDOORS TO BEAT THE HEAT - Pima County, the City of Tucson, and Tucson Medical Center (TMC) are working in partnership to shift and expand their COVID-19 vaccination efforts to indoor facilities to beat the heat. The latest change involves moving TMC's drive-thru site to a walk-through facility at the City of Tucson’s Morris K. Udall Recreation Center, 7200 E. Tanque Verde Road, beginning April 19. Another new site recently opened at the El Pueblo Center, 101 W. Irvington Road. The Kino Event Center, 2805 E. Ajo Way, will begin indoor vaccinations on April 12. COVID-19 THURSDAY UPDATE AND VACCINE SCHEDULING - As of today, April 8, Arizona now has 846,900 positive coronavirus cases, with 670 new cases reported today (down from 750 yesterday). The total number of cases includes people who have recovered. Of that number, 113,375 cases are in Pima County (up 122 from yesterday). There have been 17,055 COVID-19 deaths in Arizona (32 reported today), and 2,366 of those occurred in Pima County (5 reported today). Meanwhile, if you want a COVID-19 vaccine at a Pima County site, you can register online at the link below. Help is also available in English and Spanish by calling (520) 222-0119 for those who are unable to make an online appointment. To register at the state-run University of Arizona site, follow the state/UA link below, or call (844) 542-8201. So far, more than 2.45 million people in Arizona, or 34.1% of the population, have received at least one dose of the vaccine, while more than 1.57 million people are fully vaccinated with both doses. COUNTRY CLUB ROAD TEMPORARY CLOSURE NORTH OF BROADWAY - Country Club Road, just north of Broadway, is scheduled to close to through travel beginning at 7 p.m. tomorrow, April 9, until about 6 a.m. Monday, April 12, to allow crews to install an underground storm drain. Eastbound and westbound travel on Broadway will not be affected by this closure. Motorists traveling northbound on Country Club Road at Broadway will be required to turn east or west on Broadway. Motorists traveling southbound on Country Club Road north of Broadway will not be allowed to travel through the intersection and should detour to Tucson Boulevard or Alvernon Way as an alternate route. HHW COLLECTION EVENT SATURDAY - The City of Tucson's Environmental and General Services Department (EGSD) is hosting its monthly Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Collection Event this Saturday, April 10, from 8 a.m. to noon. Bring your HHW, electronic waste, and glass bottles/jars, and the City will recycle them for you for free. You can also bring documents (limit three boxes) for free shredding. The collection event will be at Pima Community College's Downtown Campus, 1255 N. Stone Ave. (enter off Drachman Street). See the HHW list linked below for details on what to bring. Please do not bring dried paint, empty containers, or CRT monitors. This event happens on the second Saturday of every month in different areas across Tucson.
