BUDGET TOWN HALL TOMORROW - Tucson Mayor Regina Romero and City Manager Michael Ortega invite the public to another town hall the City of Tucson is hosting to provide a platform for community members to voice their priorities for the next fiscal year budget, which begins July 1. The fourth and final town hall (Resilient Recovery) will take place tomorrow, April 8, from 5:30-7 p.m. Register at the link below. The first session focused on Infrastructure and Mobility, the second one dealt with Climate Action and Adaptation, and the third addressed Community Safety. This new and innovative approach to receiving community input for the City's annual budget includes moderated discussions on each of the four topics to enable community members to provide direct feedback to City leadership. KINO EVENT CENTER TRANSITIONS FROM COVID-19 TESTING TO VACCINATIONS - Pima County's COVID-19 testing location at Kino Event Center is becoming an indoor vaccination center instead. The testing site has been operated by Paradigm Labs, which plans to retain a smaller testing area at another location to be determined. Paradigm will partner with the County to run the vaccination site at the Kino Event Center, 2805 E. Ajo Way. Public vaccinations will begin at the center on April 12 and will be held Monday through Saturday, 9 a.m.-7 p.m. Registration will open on April 9 via the state's registration system (link below). COVID-19 WEDNESDAY UPDATE AND VACCINE SCHEDULING - As of today, April 7, Arizona now has 846,230 positive coronavirus cases, with 750 new cases reported today (up from 570 yesterday). The total number of cases includes people who have recovered. Of that number, 113,253 cases are in Pima County (up 82 from yesterday). There have been 17,023 COVID-19 deaths in Arizona (27 reported today), and 2,361 of those occurred in Pima County (2 reported today). Meanwhile, if you want a COVID-19 vaccine at a Pima County site, you can register online at the link below. Help is also available in English and Spanish by calling (520) 222-0119 for those who are unable to make an online appointment. To register at the state-run University of Arizona site, follow the state/UA link below, or call (844) 542-8201. So far, more than 2.40 million people in Arizona, or 33.4% of the population, have received at least one dose of the vaccine, while more than 1.52 million are fully vaccinated with both doses. CITY OF TUCSON TO OPEN MORE POOLS AND SPLASH PADS THIS MONTH - Tucson Parks and Recreation will open three extended-season pools and splash pads beginning Monday, April 19, in addition to four pools already open. Pools will continue to be limited capacity for adult lap swimming only, with one lap swimmer per lane. Masks are required at the facility when not in the water. Edith Ball Adaptive Recreation Center will need to close on April 26 to replace 10 pool filters requiring a four-to-six-week closure. Fort Lowell Pool will also open once the parking lot paving is complete in early May. In addition, City of Tucson splash pads will also open on Monday, April 19. TUCSON’S BIGGEST TODDLER CELEBRATES FIRST BIRTHDAY - Reid Park Zoo just celebrated its African elephant's birthday with a frozen cake, decorated tree stumps, and loads of enrichment items for Penzi and the elephant herd to enjoy.
