CANDIDATE PRESENTATIONS TONIGHT AS COUNCIL LOOKS TO FILL WARD 3 SEAT - Tucson's Mayor and Council meets tonight, March 1, at 5:30, to hear presentations from interested and qualified candidates and to discuss, consider, and make an appointment to replace resigning Council Member Paul Durham in Ward 3. Durham's resignation for personal reasons becomes effective at 5 o'clock today. The Tucson Charter requires that the person selected be a qualified elector who has lived in the city limits for the past three years and in Ward 3 for at least one year (with adjustments in the event of annexation or redistricting). The person who is appointed will serve out the remainder of Durham's term. Mayor and Council have directed that the person selected must agree not to seek the Ward 3 office in the upcoming City elections. COVID-19 MONDAY UPDATE AND VACCINE SCHEDULING - As of today, March 1, Arizona now has 817,821 positive coronavirus cases, with 1,039 new cases reported today (down from 1,075 yesterday). The total number of cases includes people who have recovered. Of that number, 109,601 cases are in Pima County (up 113 from yesterday). There have been 15,979 COVID-19 deaths in Arizona (-1 reported today after a data revision), and 2,216 of those occurred in Pima County (0 reported today). Meanwhile, if you're eligible for a COVID-19 vaccine at a Pima County site (65-years-old and up, prioritized essential workers, public safety, and teachers/educators/child care workers), you can register online at the link below. Help is also available in English and Spanish by calling (520) 222-0119 for those who are unable to make an online appointment.
