TUCSON WATER STILL ACCEPTING PAYMENT PLANS AS SHUT-OFF MORATORIUM ENDS - The Mayor and Tucson City Council recently directed Tucson Water to resume shutting off water accounts for nonpayment, beginning March 15. The utility is notifying affected customers of this impending change. It's also making them aware of the more than $1 million that is still available to help people pay utility bills if they have a COVID-related financial hardship. Tucson Water is urging customers with delinquent accounts to check their mail for bills, and any notices about delinquencies, and call (520) 791-3242 by March 15 to set up a payment plan. COVID-19 THURSDAY UPDATE AND VACCINE SCHEDULING - As of today, Feb. 25, Arizona now has 812,907 positive coronavirus cases, with 939 new cases reported today (down from 1,310 yesterday). The total number of cases includes people who have recovered. Of that number, 108,952 cases are in Pima County (up 180 from yesterday). There have been 15,814 COVID-19 deaths in Arizona (121 reported today), and 2,202 of those occurred in Pima County (16 reported today). Meanwhile, if you're eligible for a COVID-19 vaccine at a Pima County site (65-years-old and up, prioritized essential workers, public safety, and teachers/educators/child care workers), you can register online at the link below. Help is also available in English and Spanish by calling (520) 222-0119 for those who are unable to make an online appointment. REID PARK ZOO OPENS NEW FLAMINGO LAGOON - Reid Park Zoo today, Feb. 25, announced the opening of its new Flamingo Lagoon. The Chilean flamingo flock’s vibrant pink feathers now welcome guests as they enter the Zoo. This project is part of Phase 1 of the Zoo’s ongoing 10-year Master Plan. The newly renovated space offers the flock a 50% increase in its total landmass and walkable water space.
