APPLICATIONS OPEN FOR P-CHIP'S CALL FOR PROJECTS - The People, Communities, and Homes Investment Plan (P-CHIP) creates a framework for investing in Tucson's "Infrastructure of Opportunity," and it's now open for project applications. Adopted by the City of Tucson Mayor and Council on Jan. 20, this plan guides funding allocations for homeless services, housing stability, neighborhood enhancements, and more. This Call for Projects covers the “People” funding sources listed in the P-CHIP plan: Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Public Services, General Fund Dollars, Emergency Solutions Grant, and Housing for Persons with AIDS (HOPWA). It is also the process by which the City of Tucson accepts, reviews, and recommends applications for funding for fiscal year 2021-2022. Applications are now open, and a Technical Assistance Session for prospective applicants is scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 2. Final funding allocations will be determined by Mayor and Council. COVID-19 WEDNESDAY UPDATE AND POP-UP TESTING - As of today, Jan. 27, Arizona now has 738,561 positive coronavirus cases, with 5,918 new cases reported today (up from 4,748 yesterday). The total number of cases includes people who have recovered. Of that number, 98,743 cases are in Pima County (up 709 from yesterday). There have been 12,643 COVID-19 deaths in Arizona (195 reported today), and 1,680 of those occurred in Pima County (31 reported today). Meanwhile, the City's pop-up testing locations are available on a walk-up basis only. No appointment is necessary. The free saliva tests are administered by Rescue Me Wellness, and results are available in 3-5 days. For a full list of times and locations, follow the testing link below. THE LOFT CINEMA SELECTED AS A 'SATELLITE SCREEN' FOR THE SUNDANCE FILM FESTIVAL - The Loft Cinema in Tucson has been selected as a "Satellite Screen" by the world-renowned Sundance Film Festival, and it will be airing a collection of new Festival titles. In addition to screening new films, The Loft Cinema will present its original “Beyond Film” virtual discussions to complement select titles, including a virtual panel discussion called “The Impact and Legacy of Rita Moreno.” Tucson Mayor Regina Romero, who will be participating in the discussion, said, "It is an honor to have such a renowned film festival like Sundance select one of Tucson's most beloved local venues as a satellite site. SENIOR OLYMPIC FESTIVAL STAY ACTIVE INCENTIVE - While the Tucson Parks and Recreation department canceled the 2021 Senior Olympic Festival, it still encourages all seniors (ages 50 years or older) to stay active and healthy during these uncertain times. Send in a recent photo or short video clip (10 seconds maximum) of you staying active, and you will receive a free gift bag. You will be notified by email with location, dates, and times for a contactless, drive-thru pick-up. Each participant also will be entered into drawings for additional prizes.
