HEALTH OFFICIALS WARN HEALTH CARE SYSTEM COULD BE OVERWHELMED SOON - The Pima County Health Department yesterday, Dec. 21, issued a new public health advisory on COVID-19, warning that the health care system in the county is in danger of being overwhelmed within three weeks. The new advisory includes calls for continued adherence to the mask mandate and the mandatory 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. curfew throughout Pima County. It adds a request to limit gatherings to fewer than 10 people and asks all businesses to reduce their occupancy to 25% of capacity, including personnel, and encourages some establishments to temporarily close, including indoor playgrounds, recreational facilities, indoor fitness and dance studios, hair and nail salons, barbershops, and movie theaters. The limitations on gatherings and on business occupancy and closures are voluntary, as are the continued requests to stay home, especially for people over the age of 65 or for those who are medically vulnerable. Hospital bed usage is at a critical state due to the high rate of COVID-19 community spread occurring in Pima County, the advisory states. The online application will now close this Thursday, Dec. 24. Notification of selection will be sent to applicants before Dec. 31.
