COVID-19 MONDAY UPDATE - As of today, Dec. 7, Arizona now has 365,843 positive coronavirus cases, with 1,567 new cases reported today (down from 5,376 yesterday). Case numbers typically show lower-than-usual in Monday's report. The total number of cases includes people who have recovered. Of that number, 45,892 cases are in Pima County (up 726 from yesterday). There have been 6,950 COVID-19 deaths in Arizona (0 reported today), and 730 of those occurred in Pima County (0 reported today). Meanwhile, the City of Tucson maintains an up-to-date COVID-19 website (link below) that includes information for businesses, residents, and more. The site is updated as information evolves. COVID TESTING CENTERS EXPAND HOURS - The City of Tucson and the Pima County Health Department recently expanded hours for free COVID-19 testing at several locations. The move comes as test positivity rates and new cases surge locally, statewide, and nationwide. Extra testing hours will allow 270 additional appointments per day each at the Kino Event Center and Morris K. Udall Center, plus expanded hours at the El Pueblo Center testing location. For the Kino Testing Center, 2805 E. Ajo Way, appointments are now available Monday-Saturday, 10 a.m.-7 p.m. At the Udall Testing Center, 7200 E. Tanque Verde Road, appointments are now available Tuesday-Sunday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. The El Pueblo Testing Site, 101 W. CITY SEEKS PUBLIC COMMENT ON CONSOLIDATED ANNUAL PERFORMANCE AND EVALUATION REPORT - The City of Tucson is accepting comments on the draft program year 2019 Consolidated Annual Performance and Evaluation Report (CAPER). The report provides information on City expenditures from July 1, 2019, through June 30, 2020, for the following U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development entitlement grants: Community Development Block Grant, HOME Investment Partnership, Emergency Solutions Grant, and Housing Opportunities for Persons with Aids. This draft report is now available for comment by following the link below. REID PARK ZOO LIGHTS UP TO BRING HOLIDAY CHEER IN A TOUGH YEAR - Reid Park Zoo will be aglow for its annual “ZooLights: Holiday Magic,” 5:30-8:30 p.m. nightly, now through Dec. 23, and Dec. 26-30. Guests will explore a wonderland filled with thousands of twinkling lights and glittering displays, from whimsical characters to illuminated animal sculptures. There will be falling snow to help set the festive mood and socially-distanced visits with Jolly St. Nick, who will be on hand for the little ones each evening, through Dec. 23, before he flies back to the North Pole. Hot chocolate and seasonal foods also will be available for purchase. Putting health and safety first, ZooLights will have limited capacity each evening to allow for social distancing.
