PIMA COUNTY ISSUES VOLUNTARY CURFEW - Pima County yesterday, Nov. 23, issued a public health advisory, requesting all individuals countywide to observe a voluntary curfew between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. daily, through Dec. 31, due to the substantial community spread of COVID-19. The curfew request comes a day after the Health Department reported the highest single day total of new COVID-19 infections since the beginning of the pandemic. The guidance is not aimed at the homeless or those who need to leave for work, emergencies, or to obtain food, medical care, medicine, or supplies for themselves or others. Read the news release
COVID-19 TUESDAY UPDATE - As of today, Nov. 24, Arizona now has 306,868 positive coronavirus cases, with 4,544 new cases reported today (up from 2,659 yesterday). The total number of cases includes people who have recovered. Of that number, 36,986 cases are in Pima County (up 327 from yesterday). There have been 6,515 COVID-19 deaths in Arizona (51 reported today), and 679 of those occurred in Pima County (5 reported today). Meanwhile, the City of Tucson maintains an up-to-date COVID-19 website (link below) that includes information for businesses, residents, and more. The site is updated as information evolves. TUCSON PARKS AND RECREATION ANNOUNCES NEW DIRECTOR - Following a national recruitment and competitive selection process, Tucson City Manager Michael Ortega has selected Lara Hamwey to be the next director of the City of Tucson’s Parks and Recreation department, effective Jan. 10, 2021. Hamwey has 16 years of work experience in parks and recreation, which includes program development, public relations, budgeting, capital improvements, human resources, certification, and process improvement. Hamwey comes to Tucson from the City of Miami Parks & Recreation department in Florida, where she has worked as the director since 2019. She was deputy director for five years before that. P-CHIP PUBLIC INPUT TOOLS EXTENDED - The online public input tools for the People, Communities, and Homes Investment Plan (P-CHIP) have been extended until Sunday, Nov. 29, to receive further community feedback. The P-CHIP allows the public to provide input on priorities and how to allocate funding for investing in Tucson's most-vulnerable populations. This information will then be one of the determining factors to direct funding for homeless services, housing stability, neighborhood enhancements, and more. Start off with the Priorities Survey to give feedback on what you think are the most important issues for the P-CHIP to address.
