Join us for an introduction to birding set in Fort Lowell Park. Sharon Goldwasser is a highly skilled birder and science teacher. She is well known locally for playing the violin. Sharon also gets on her bicycle and travels around Tucson and Southern Arizona. She has led birding tours professionally, so we were pleased that she agreed to tell us how to get started in birding. Watch the video on our
YouTube and go on your own birding adventure using our

Ward 5 Tucson City Council Member Richard Fimbres, the Greater Southern Arizona Area Chapter (GSAAC) of the Buffalo Soldiers, and Tucson Parks and Recreation broke ground on a memorial honoring the contributions of Black Americans when settling in Southern Arizona. The memorial will be built at the Quincie Douglas Center, 1575 E. 36th St. and is funded through donations to the GSAAC of the Buffalo Soldiers and funds from Tucson Delivers Parks + Connections, a 2018 voter-approved bond program. The neighborhood surrounding the Quincie Douglas Center, where the memorial will be located, is one of the oldest historically Black neighborhoods in Tucson. Currently, there are no monuments or museums in Tucson representative of contributions Black soldiers made in settling Southern Arizona and the West.
