RENTAL ASSISTANCE FOR NINE MONTHS OF BACK RENT AVAILABLE FOR EVICTION PREVENTION - Pima County CARES Act funding is still available for up to 400 more Pima County households negatively affected by COVID-19 and currently behind on their rent. Community Investment Corporation (CIC), a Tucson-based nonprofit, is administering $3.625 million of eviction prevention money provided by Pima County. Funding for the program is set to expire on Nov. 30. Both tenant and landlord/property owner must complete an application and submit the required documentation. The program allows landlords, property owners, or tenants to initiate the application process online at the link below or by calling (831) 292-4308. COVID-19 THURSDAY UPDATE - As of today, Oct. 22, Arizona now has 234,906 positive coronavirus cases, with 994 new cases reported today (up from 975 yesterday). The total number of cases includes people who have recovered. Of that number, 27,208 cases are in Pima County (up 80 from yesterday). There have been 5,859 COVID-19 deaths in Arizona (5 reported today), and 635 of those occurred in Pima County (0 reported today). Meanwhile, the City of Tucson maintains an up-to-date COVID-19 website (link below) that includes information for businesses, residents, and more. The site is updated as information evolves. OUT-OF-STATE REMOTE WORKERS BEING RECRUITED TO TUCSON - Remote Tucson, launched by Startup Tucson, is an effort to lure remote workers to Southern Arizona, offering a respite from big cities to our affordable, creative, and thriving community. In turn, our economy and younger demographic will see a positive gain. Remote workers who commit to the program will receive benefits, perks, and moving assistance. SIGN UP FOR OUTDOOR RECREATION CLASSES - Tucson Parks and Recreation is offering more leisure classes outdoors this fall. Classes will be held at Gene C. Reid Park, Morris K. Udall Park, and Purple Heart Park. Some adult classes include Tai Chi, Total Body Conditioning, and Line Dancing. FIREFIGHTER FITNESS (VIDEO) - The Tucson Fire Department (TFD) has launched a new web series focusing on firefighter fitness. In the first episode, TFD Paramedic and Personal Trainer Antonio Strevay discusses several exercises he includes in his workouts at Station 8, 250 W. King Road. If you're not a firefighter, you can still benefit from these exercises, but check with your doctor before starting any exercise program, and do so at your own risk.
