REGISTER TO VOTE - Today, Sept. 22, is National Voter Registration Day. Since its creation in 2012, the day is commemorated on the fourth Tuesday of September to focus attention on the importance of voting. The nonpartisan and collaborative effort is a civic holiday that celebrates our democracy. It involves the collective efforts of thousands of volunteers, nonprofit organizations, businesses, schools, libraries, and election officials from all over the country. Arizona's voter registration deadline to take part in the Nov. 3 election is Oct. 5. Early voting begins Oct. 7. For more information, follow the links below. COVID-19 TUESDAY UPDATE - As of today, Sept. 22, Arizona now has 214,846 positive coronavirus cases, with 595 new cases reported today (up from 233 yesterday). The total number of cases includes people who have recovered. Of that number, 24,798 cases are in Pima County (up 151 from yesterday). There have been 5,498 COVID-19 deaths in Arizona (20 reported today), and 617 of those occurred in Pima County (2 reported today). Meanwhile, the City of Tucson maintains an up-to-date COVID-19 website (link below) that includes information for businesses, residents, and more. The site is updated as information evolves. WATCH THRIVE IN THE 05’S RESOURCE CAFÉ FEATURING THE MAYOR’S MILLION TREES INITIATIVE - The next Thrive in the 05 Resource Café will feature the Tucson Million Trees initiative from Mayor Regina Romero's office. Tomorrow's, Sept. 23, café begins at noon and will focus on the campaign's aim to plant 1 million trees by 2030 to help mitigate the effects of climate change. Mayoral staff will talk about how Tucson residents can help plant trees to support the campaign and the environment. Thrive in the 05's half-hour livestreams take place Wednesday through Friday this week on Facebook and Zoom. The program is a collaboration of Innovations in Community-Based Crime Reduction, Choice Neighborhoods, and Workforce & Economic Development in the 85705 ZIP code. RECEIVE FREE SERVICES TO PROTECT YOU AND YOUR FAMILY FROM LEAD - Does your home have chipping paint? Was your home built before 1978? Do you have a child under 6 years old living in or frequently visiting your home? Are you on limited-income? Are your property taxes paid? If you answered yes to all you may qualify for the City of Tucson’s free program to mitigate lead exposure. In this program, you will receive education and resources on the dangers of lead, have the option to get your child tested for lead poisoning by El Rio Health, and receive home repairs to remove lead found in your home.
