COVID-19 WEDNESDAY UPDATE - As of today, Aug. 12, Arizona now has 189,443 positive coronavirus cases, with 706 new cases reported today (down from 1,213 yesterday). The total number of cases includes people who have recovered. Of that number, 18,508 cases are in Pima County. There have been 4,347 COVID-19 deaths in Arizona, and 505 of those occurred in Pima County. Meanwhile, the City of Tucson maintains an up-to-date COVID-19 website (link below) that includes information for businesses, residents, and even activities for kids. COMPLETE YOUR CENSUS FORM TODAY AND BE COUNTED (VIDEO) - There's still time to complete your 2020 census form. Responses help determine the number of seats each state has in Congress and guide how nearly $700 billion in federal funding is spent in communities each year. It’s estimated up to $3,000 per person, per year is at stake for Arizona. The answers are kept anonymous and are used only to produce statistics. Starting this month, census workers will be knocking on doors of homes from which they've received no response. Census takers will have official identification, wear masks, and follow local public health guidelines when they visit. Follow the links below for more information. ELEPHANT CALF UPDATE - It's World Elephant Day and the perfect time to celebrate Penzi, our own African elephant calf. She is growing and learning new things every day. THRIVE IN THE 05’s RESOURCE CAFÉ TO FEATURE THE CITY OF TUCSON’S PLANNING AND DEVELOPMENT SERVICES DEPARTMENT - The Thrive in the 05 Resource Café tomorrow, Aug. 13, noon-12:30 p.m., will showcase the work of the Planning and Development Services Department (PDSD). The Thrive Resource Café is a half-hour livestream taking place every Tuesday through Thursday on Facebook and Zoom. The purpose of the cafés is to highlight various community partners and resources available to the public during the COVID-19 pandemic. During tomorrow's Thrive Resource Café, Sarah Meggison, a planner, will guide viewers through the professional planning process, site and building review, and inspection services. OVERHEAD STREET SIGN REPLACEMENT DOWNTOWN - Starting at 2 a.m. tomorrow, Aug. 13, crews from the City of Tucson Department of Transportation and Mobility (DTM) Sign Shop will replace overhead street name signs at the intersection of Church Avenue and Pennington Street. The work is scheduled to be finished by 2 p.m. the same day. During this work, there will be temporary travel lane and turning restrictions at the intersections.
