RE-IMAGINED KIDCO PROGRAM UNVEILED - Tucson Parks and Recreation is offering an all-day Re-imagined KIDCO program to help families navigate this school year during the pandemic. The program will offer on-site virtual learning monitoring and assistance during normal school hours, along with activities, games, sports, and art during after-school times. Parents of children ages 5-11 (currently enrolled in K-5th grade in the Tucson Unified or Amphi school districts) can register beginning tomorrow, Aug. 11, at 9 a.m. at the link below. Students must wear a mask and bring their own virtual learning equipment (laptops, books, etc.). The cost is $125/month for city residents and $157/month for non-city residents. NEW COVID-19 CASES CONTINUE TO DECLINE IN ARIZONA - As of today, Aug. 10, Arizona now has 187,523 positive coronavirus cases, with 600 new cases reported today. If all lab partners submitted their data on time, that number is far lower than what we've seen over the past few weeks. The total number of cases includes people who have recovered. Of that number, 17,996 cases are in Pima County. There have been 4,154 COVID-19 deaths in Arizona, and 489 of those occurred in Pima County. Meanwhile, the City of Tucson maintains an up-to-date COVID-19 website (link below) that includes information for businesses, residents, and even activities for kids. COMMUNITY MEETINGS SCHEDULED FOR RENEWAL AND EXPANSION OF THE CENTRAL BUSINESS DISTRICT - The City of Tucson Office of Economic Initiatives will host two virtual community meetings to provide information regarding the proposed renewal and expansion of the Central Business District (CBD). Advance registration is required for the meetings on Aug. 12 at 4 p.m. and Aug. 15 at 11 a.m. Per ARS § 42-6209(F), the City is required to review the CBD by Oct. 1, 2020, and may either renew, modify, or terminate the designation. Mayor and Council previously provided direction to expand the boundary of the existing CBD. The staff report, providing detailed findings of fact in this matter, can be found at the link below. DOWNTOWN PARKING LOT CLOSURES AND ROAD CLOSURE FOR ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENT WORK - Starting today, Aug. 10, and continuing through Thursday, Aug. 13, the City of Tucson’s Environmental and General Services Department (EGSD) will be conducting environmental assessment activities by taking soil and soil vapor samples in support of the Ronstadt Redevelopment Project. Work will occur in the area bounded by Pennington Street, 6th Avenue, and Toole Avenue. The Pennington triangle and Toole Avenue parking lots are closed now and are expected to reopen on Friday, Aug. 14. Starting tomorrow, from 5:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m., Pennington Street and the surrounding right-of-way will be closed from 6th Avenue to Toole Avenue.
