FREE COMMUNITY COVID-19 TESTING - The City of Tucson is partnering with Pima County, at the direction of the Mayor and Council, to offer free COVID-19 testing to any community member who wishes to get tested. This free testing, administered by the Pima County Health Department and Paradigm Laboratories, began today, Aug. 7, as a pilot day at Udall Recreation Center, 7200 E. Tanque Verde Road. You do not need a doctor’s order to get the nasal swab test. To register for an appointment, follow the link below and click on the "Schedule My Test" link for Udall, or call 800-369-3584 to schedule an appointment. You must have an appointment, and no walk-in tests will be conducted. The testing center will be open Tuesdays through Sundays, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Testing will continue at the center until it is no longer needed to control the pandemic. Udall is now the third testing center available in Pima County and the second to be operated by Paradigm. COVID-19 FRIDAY UPDATE - As of today, Aug. 7, Arizona now has 185,053 positive coronavirus cases, with 1,406 new cases reported today. The total number of cases includes people who have recovered. Of that number, 17,497 cases are in Pima County. There have been 4,081 COVID-19 deaths in Arizona, and 482 of those occurred in Pima County. Meanwhile, the City of Tucson maintains an up-to-date COVID-19 website (link below) that includes information for businesses, residents, and even activities for kids. MAYOR ROMERO JOINS LOCAL VENUES AND PERFORMING ARTS ORGANIZATIONS TO ADVOCATE FOR FEDERAL RELIEF - Tucson Mayor Regina Romero is joining local arts and culture venues and performing arts organizations in a letter asking Congress for funding to help those venues and organizations that had to close due to the pandemic. They're asking Congress to pass the Save Our Stages (SOS) Act and the RESTART Act to provide the financial assistance needed to reopen their doors and resume performances when it is safe to do so. This letter is in addition to another letter the mayor signed on to earlier this week, joining other mayors across the country in asking for federal relief for local restaurants through the Real Economic Support That Acknowledges Unique Restaurant Assistance Needed to Survive (RESTAURANT) Act of 2020. REGISTRATION OPENS NEXT WEEK FOR OUTDOOR FITNESS CLASSES - Tucson Parks and Recreation will offer some outdoor leisure classes this fall. Due to the continued closures of its indoor facilities, the normal fall classes inside will not be offered, but some will be hosted at Gene C. Reid Park and Morris K. Udall Park as alternatives. Classes will be limited to 10 participants, and temperatures will be taken before each class. Classes include Hatha Yoga (50+), Aerobic Mix (14+), Total Body Conditioning (17+), Tai Chi Chuan (17+), and Drawing and Water Color Painting (6-14). TUSD GRAB-AND-GO MOBILE MEALS FALL SCHEDULE - Beginning Monday, Aug. 10, the Tucson Unified School District (TUSD) will offer breakfast and lunch during remote learning via new Grab-and-Go Meal bus routes with 67 stops. The 12 routes are organized by region and serve the entire district. This school year, TUSD has expanded its Community Eligibility Program (CEP) to 60 schools. Grab-and-Go Meals are free to enrolled students at the 60 CEP schools. For students enrolled at non-CEP schools, free or reduced meals are provided based on student eligibility.
