DUCEY REINSTITUTES CLOSURES OF CERTAIN BUSINESSES AMID CORONAVIRUS - Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey yesterday, June 29, issued an executive order that closes bars, nightclubs, gyms, movie theaters, water parks, and tubing until at least July 27. The order went into effect at 8 o'clock last night to help stem the spread of COVID-19 coronavirus cases in Arizona. The order also delays the start of the next school year until at least Aug. 17. Ducey also banned gatherings of more than 50 people, but churches and political rallies are exempt. The governor acknowledged the spike in the number of cases of COVID-19 that started two weeks after his mid-May order reopening Arizona's economy and said "we're fixing it," and "we're not going back to normal anytime soon." While again urging people to wear masks in public, Ducey did not issue a statewide requirement that people do so, although the City of Tucson, Pima County, and many municipalities have passed their own mask laws. As of this morning, June 30, there are now 8,004 COVID-19 cases in Pima County and 79,215 in Arizona. Those numbers include people who have recovered, as state health officials do not track recoveries. There have now been 1,632 COVID-19 deaths in Arizona.
