With the funding assistance that comes from Friends of PACC, we frequently host free microchip events. We recently hosted 4 such events at PACC; two by PACC and two by FOP. The turnout is amazing every time we do one of these. It shows the concern people have for assuring if their pet escapes on a joy ride, the finder will have a chance of getting it back home.

Microchips are injected under the fur of dogs and cats. We receive them in boxes containing syringes, tags that have the unique chip I.D. and instructions for each pet owner. None of it comes pre-assembled.

This Scoop is to give credit to our Emergency Call Center staff who stepped up and assembled all of the packets needed for the events, in between calls. That’s getting a syringe with the correct I.D. label into individual envelopes, prepping the syringe, and assuring they’re open and available for when the line begins to form.

When we do the Microchip events the aim is to get 250 per day. Over these 4 events, that’s 1,000 Pima County animals who are now chipped so they can be returned home if they get out wandering. It only takes a few minutes to prep each packet, but if you multiple that ‘few minutes’ by a thousand, it means this added effort saved everyone involved with these events hours of waiting for the line to move.
