County celebrates accomplishments of decade-old Multi-Species Conservation Plan
What do a tortoise, a snail, and a cactus with yellow flowers have in common?
These three lifeforms — the Sonoran Desert tortoise, the Santa Catalina talussnail, and the Pima pineapple cactus, respectively — are members of an exclusive group, the 44 species covered by Pima County’s Multi-Species Conservation Plan (MSCP).
The County is celebrating the accomplishments of the MSCP, which marks its 10th anniversary this year. Over the last decade, the plan has helped the County build wildlife crossings, run a successful ecological motoring program, and establish new populations of native desert fish.
One Pima Initiative delivers results in housing, public safety, community support
From helping thousands of households remain safely housed to removing more than 600,000 pounds of debris from the Chuck Huckelberry Loop and surrounding waterways, Pima County’s One Pima Initiative produced measurable success during its first eight months.
District 5 Supervisor Andrés Cano brought the One Pima Initiative to the Board of Supervisors, which approved the plan in November 2025, as a two-year coordinated effort focused on five priority areas.
