As readers of the weekly Scoop are aware, PACC recently opened an off-site space, the purpose of which is to impound animals from hoarding conditions. We call it the ARK – Animal Restoration Kennels. The facility has 88 kennels, both indoor and outdoor, and some with both options. So far, we’ve saved well over 200 dogs from cruelty, neglect, and no vet care.

One of our impounds included 67 dogs from a single property. A dozen of those were a mom and pups – they came straight to PACC. The rest were a mix of mid-to-large breed dogs. One was a black lab beauty named Kimber.

One of the first groups to visit the ARK was a local lab rescue. They spotted Kimber and took her in with the goal of placing her in a forever home. As you can see by this photo, that match has been made.

Our rescue partner facilitated a few meet-and-greets between Kimber and the pups who already lived at the adopter’s home. When the decision was finally made Kimber met her new family with a happy wagging tail – no more neglect and being forced to live among dozens of other dogs in unsanitary conditions.

The ARK is a groundbreaking project through which we have partnered with the Health Department to address behavioral and occupational health needs of the people involved, and PACC takes the lead on the animal welfare component of the project.
