We work here because we love what we do
An update from Steve Kozachik, PACC Director May 11, 2026
Our PACC staff works hard every day in a high paced and emotionally fraught work environment. Roughly 20,000 animals come through the shelter each year, every one of them with its own story, and all looking for a great home. Not all of them make it out, and those are the ones that create a drag on the sensitivities to all of us who work at PACC.
With that as the backdrop, this week’s Scoop is to both recognize and thank those who take a moment to send notes of gratitude to our staff. I’ve seen them for the work done in the adoptions center, foster, our volunteer office, admissions, animal protection services and the clinic. Our Pet Support unit spends every day working to keep pets in their homes. Our Central Pet partners do the daily clean/feed essential work. Dispatch is the front line for getting enforcement out into the community. And speaking of the community, our Karen’s Karing Van team performs magic with spay/neuter and wellness events in areas all over the county. Each is deserving of the kind words we hear from members of the community.

Here, you can see a few posts that have come in recently.
And this one – a bit more lengthy:
“Oh Wow. Went bc my friend had to surrender a pet. Want to donate some $ to an agency that helps dogs and cats. I have no animals, incompatible work schedule to have critters, tho I absolutely love them. This place is wonderful and its staff do a work I could not do. I cried the whole time I was there. Walked the whole facility and just Prayed over all the rescued kitten and puppies, the staff, their facility and finances. Help these good people take care of the critters here. Both animal and humans at this facility need all the assistance they can get.”
At PACC, all 125 staffers, 50 Central Pet partners and 1,000 +/- volunteers work daily to find homes for our critters. Given the number of animals coming in every day the work to find them homes takes our entire PACC village. When we hear the positive comments that recognize the difficult and important work our team is doing 7 days every week, it lightens some of that burden.
So, thank you for the thumbs up – we appreciate you noticing. Come out and be a part of the hundreds of families each month who add a new member. Our staff are here and looking forward to helping you make that decision.
